| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Life exists in the universe. Who knows for sure if Earth is the only planet capable of supporting life? But what I do know is that given the size of the universe there has to be more than just one planet capable of supporting life--it only makes sense that there would be.
Let's not transmit a beacon that says "Hi, we're over here!" You never know who or what may be listening, e.g. Stargate. Maybe if we were more advanced technologically and could handle aliens hell-bent on destruction or domination we could broadcast, but until then I say no.
I run SETI@home for the opportunity to get a Nobel, why else? Okay, really though, I believe in alien life and I love the fact that I'm helping to search for it. Also, my computers have a dual role, serving me and SETI. |
