Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that there are other worlds inhabited by intelligent creatures. While there are many possible negatives to alien contact (virus, violence), the knowledge of their existance would create a much needed focus on space travel, communications, computers. Without the need to travel great distances, it will be difficult to discover new propulsion systems, communication systems, and other countless advances. As far as danger from contact, while it exists, it is likely that any culture which achieves such great scientific advances will have learned how to control violence and disease.

I run SETI@home because I believe in the professionalism of the organization. They have a clear goal, and operate there systems only to achieve that goal. With that, I am comfortable and happy to share my computer resources to help in this endeavour.
