Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, ET life is out there - the universe is too big for something to happen only once. Without the slightest shred of evidence to support this belief, I believe that life is a cosmic imperative and that it will arise wherever the conditions are right. Life on Earth is proof to me that it is out there, and one day we will find it.

By life, I don't mean aliens in flying saucers - I mean worlds where life can begin.

We don't need to transmit a beacon to let alien intelligence know that we are here - we started doing that when we broadcast the first radio message. The infomation we are now sending out into the galaxy is pretty typical of our culture - war, disaster, murder, soap operas, Oprah (may the galaxy forgive us), Michael Jackson's latest crisis (that might be asking too much of the galaxy), 'reality' TV, where poor fools make bigger fools of themselves (we deserve to be bombed with an asteroid for that trash).

Any alien culture picking up our transmissions would be wise to keep very very quiet.

2. Obviously, I run SETI@home, which is an indication of my opinion of it.

3. Suggestions may follow later...
