Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Because of so many CPUs idle-ing the whole day and night Seti@home is a great idea. If i'm asked "Do you believe in extraterrestial life?" the answer is always "YESSSS!" but i'm not really sure why these lifeforms should contact us right now while Arecibo is listening. Maybe they tried it 50.000 years ago and (of course) got no answer. The chance to find intelligent signals from outer space with seti@home is surely minimal but as long as i play in the lottery -- why not crunching packets too? My advice: load any idle CPU with seti@home!
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
