Personal background
I'm a 34 year old speech user interface consultant and psychology lecturer from Singapore with a keen interest in astronomy and the search for extra terrestrial intelligence. I became enamoured of astronomy and SETI after watching Cosmos when I was just 13 and developed a lifelong admiration of the late Carl Sagan's work.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe in the possibility of extra terrestrial life. Statistically, we couldn;t possibly be the ONLY intelligent life in the universe. Humans will, I believe eventually discover life elsewhere, perhaps soon, perhaps not for a few generations. I believe it will be a pivotal moment in humanity's history and development, though whether it helps us truly become united r drives us even further apart from each other, remains to be seen.
Human beings should transmit a beacon for others to find and I believe we should include information on the earth's genetic diversity, human culture, beliefs and history, no matter how brutal it is.
I personally run SETI@home because I believe if the world community can cooperate on this very important project, it may bring us just a little closer to that pivotal moment...
