Personal background
I live in Hertfordshire, in South-East England, and it is my favourite place to live - close enough to London to go there to work (although I'd rather not - being there is fine, but commuting is a right pain!) but far enough out that I can go for a walk in woods a mile from my house, and see foxes, deer, rabbits, the occasional mouse or vole, bats near dusk, and lots of birds. In fact I've seen foxes from my bedroom window, and I can occasionally hear Munctjac deer "barking" from home.

I'm in my second half-century, I always wanted to be an inventor, but it turned out there were almost no jobs doing that, so I went into computing. I find designing systems is very much like inventing a machine, so I got close! Unfortunately the market for bespoke computer systems shrunk dramatically, and what remained seems to have gone to India, so I find myself unemployed.

My hobbies are almost anything technical, electronics, computing (and embedded computing using PICs, which combines the two), photography, woodwork (my most prolific product being sawdust :-) DIY, and so on.

I have always liked OS/2 and I'm glad that BOINC now has a port that will allow me to continue running SETI. I sell eComStation, the heir to OS/2's throne, and I recommend it to anyone who is fed up with Windows' hassle.
