Profile: howard

Personal background
I live in the Netherlands, that small country at the North Sea, that sometimes is almost taken over by the sea or some rivers (take your pick). The south of the Netherlands can boast some hilly landscape and I live there in the little town of Sittard. I love this place.
I'm 41 by now. My hobbies include driving my motorbike, my Caterham Super Seven, kiting and reading, films. I am originally a philosopher but have laid down the 'profession'.
I work at the Open University of the Netherlands as an expert in IT systems for distance education.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Balancing between 'knowing', 'believing', 'hoping' and 'excitement' I want to make my little contribution in the search for knowledgeable signs from other intelligent life in our universe.
(Please mark there is no 'fearing' amongst my reasons for joining)

For some time now Physics has become a new player in our belief driven society which still searches for (a) meaning to endow on life. Belief in the promises of Physics is what also drives me to join Seti, along with the general tendency to 'flee into the future' for things not obtainable now.
