Profile: Antonio Carlos da Silva

Personal background
I'm from São Paulo, Brazil. I'm 36 years old and I've been an English teacher for 17 years now.I'm one of the founding members of the the São Paulo Astronomy Club, which I'd like to invite everyone to join (www.casp.tk). Maybe Carl Sagan and Cosmos are to blame for my interest in all things celestial... Sometimes I can't help thinking he wrote that memorable book and made that unforgettable TV series with all those who were kids and teenagers in mind.I'm also very much into working out and running, but lately I've been paying more attention to the stars than to the gym, which I don't regret at all. Actually, I don't believe anything else in the world can make your friends think of you whenever they're under a clear dark sky or hear astronomy news.I like to be in touch with people from all over the world, so please feel free to drop me a line whenever you want. Besides Astronomy, I also like History and Archaeology (especially Egyptology) and Paleontology.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm very proud to participate in SETI@home. I strongly believe we're in a project that will only be given its due value in the future, hopefully soon. It's an honor to have the chance to be involved in such a serious scientific effort that boldly tries to do something real for humanity in spite of a lot of skepticism on the part of mainstream science itself.Extraterrestrial life certainly exists and future generations will see those who don't believe in it just the way we see advocates of geocentrism today. Sooner or later, we'll know for sure and the impact on our civilization will be tremendous and, for the most part, extremely positive. We'll have answered an age old questions and will be closer to understandin our own role in the Universe.
