Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, I think ET life exists, but you have to take into account Carl Sagan's "evolutionary clock" concept. It is doubtful that any alien life forms we encounter will be in the same stage of evolved life that we human beings are. More than likely we will encounter alien bacteria or fauna/flora before we actually talk to anyone. Here's for hoping that Sagan was wrong, but not likely.

2. We probably should not transmit a beacon. It is better to have all of the universe think that we humans are stupid rather than opening our mouths and proving it without a doubt (paraphrased Mark Twain).

3. I run SETI at home because I have a good number of bored computers. Rather than idling all of the time I think it is better to use that time for some purpose or another.
