Personal background
I work as an electronics technician in The Outer Hebrides of Scotland. I've got two kids of my own, three step-children and six grand-children (at the moment). It has been suggested that this is the reason that I am currently working on a remote Scottish island and I'm not going to deny it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I read about SETI@Home in a magazine and it immediately caught my imagination.
Wouldn't it be great to be the one to find that all important work unit?

I do believe that life exists elsewhere in the universe. In fact I believe that if we look long enough we'll find a planet full of monkeys making a hell of a noise clacking away on their typewriters.

As for the human race making a beacon to transmit to ETs, I'm not sure. It's always harder making the first move in a room full of strangers and I'm not entirely sure that we're mature enough to handle a response without giggling inanely in the corner. Certainly not at the moment anyway.

Personally, I think that the most conclusive proof that intelligent life exists somewhere else in the universe is that they haven't tried to contact us yet. Maybe if we stop calling each other bad names, crashing planes into buildings and blowing up school buses they might give us a clue where they are. Which probably means that we're on our own for quite a while still...

At least this project is a step in the right direction.
