Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
I think life exists out there, whether amoeba-like or lizard-like - they're out there. They'll probably discover us first, moaning about 'Murder She Wrote' repeats on TV or something - taking up all there precious airwaves they've just discovered. This'll take a few thousand years first - and we'll benefit as TV bosses discover that those kind of repeats are a 'no-no'.
2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
Of course. The usual information of number-sequencey-thingies, but I think it's best and save time and ask them 'what's the beef?'
3.Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
I think S@H are doin' a class job, and it shows what we (as a human race) are capable of - wanting to work together as a community on a project of this scale. This is regardless of the people who cause misery whilst we line their fat pockets, keeping us on this lonely planet anyhows. We should have at least colonised Mars by now. |
