Profile: PrinceOD

Personal background
I’m male aged 37 from Colchester in the UK, self-employed working in the financial sector. I have two daughters under four who control both my and my wife’s lives.
Unusually for these profiles, I would say I am far less of a fan of all things extra-terrestrial or sci-fi than I was throughout my early life, as demands have made me far more ground based, and more focused upon earthly matters. I still love a good Xenomorph movie tho’, although they rarely seem to be really great. My favourites include Alien (only the first one), Dark Star and The Thing, primarily because they were good stories and didn’t trade in for sentimentality. Anyone got any other A1 recommendations?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Don’t flame me for saying it, but I think we’re barking up the wrong tree, and won’t be surprised if the results are inconclusive! Before you all reach for your swords here is my view: Firstly, due to the enormous distances, huge time delays, and signal degradation, I cannot imagine any constellation-hopping ET worth his salt will be using such archaic means for communication. It would be like stretching a string between two baked bean tins to put in a call from New York to London! More likely to be using something like those quantum particle-pair thingies they’re learning about now, that enable instantaneous information transfer. Secondly, if you think how security conscious we all are, everything is bound to be encrypted, and therefore there’s more than a good chance that if we pick it up we’ll think it’s a natural background phenomena. Still, there is in my view a faint chance that we’ll pick up the signals of a species at the same technical level as ourselves.
However, the project gets my full support for the excitement of its ambition, and most of all, for kicking against the pricks and not letting the bean counters dictate what is a worthy pursuit for all our benefit!
