Personal background
I am 23 and live in London. Am currently studying Ancient History at King's College and find it very interesting that many of the ideas and beliefs in ancient societies and still relevant today. For example, some some Greeksbelieved in their horoscopes, whilst other thought it ridiculous. Also, the ancient Greek 'philosophers' such as the Presocratics and the view of celestial beings. The progression of their beliefs led them to more advanced and sometimes more accurate knowledge the universe.Interesting, because it suggests that whilst we may think we have the most accurate and 'correct' belief yet we still be way off the mark.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Think it's very interesting - one could formulate all the opinions that one wanted to about what may or may not exist. Is there something out there? Or is the idea that we are the only conscious, sentient beings in the whole of the universe to impossible to contemplate? Calls into question things such as our beliefs in religion and the existence of a higher being, a belief that has existed certainly since the 8th century BC, and probably long before then. The search, and thus possbile discovery of extraterrestial life would pave the way for certain questions about the very nature of human existence to be answered.
