Personal background
I was born in Erith on the London / Kent border (England) in 1966. I still live just a few miles away. By profession I am a Chemist.

I am a member of the Planetary Society, the National Space Society, the British Interplanetary Society, the British Astronomical Association and the Society For Popular Astronomy. I am also a huge fan of Rugby Union. I am a season ticket holder at Wasps who are the English and European Champions.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
SETI@home (and BOINC) mean that it is possible for ordinary people to take part in cutting edge research as was possible a century or more ago.
The discovery of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe would be the most important scientific discovery of all time. It could potentially change everything we think we know. It could change our views not just on science and technology but on philosophy and religion as well.
