Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Of course extraterrestrial life exist. If it did not, then it is one hell of a waist of space. I think will discover other life as soon as people start accepting that there is most likely other life out there and they start helping the science community in looking for these "aliens." The odds of us finding life out there would greatly increase if the governments started give more $$ to there space departments. If the aliens we find are developed enough for us to be able tell they exist by radio waves or by them coming to us then we could mostly likely learn stuff from them and they migh be able to learn from us. But if the aliens had a problem with our diseases or we had some with theirs that would cause problems. Some people would also wnat to exploit the aliens and "use" them.
2. Yes, we sould have a beacon transmitting that we are in fact here. The singnal should be simple, but done so that it is obvious that it is not a naturaly occuring thing. I don't know that we should put much in the signal b/c what are the odds that the aliens would be able to tell what it is and be able to translate it?
3. I run SETI b/c I want to find aliens. I think it is an awesome project. If there was some way to get donations from companies and/or get companies to run SETI on their computers would greatly help the SETI project.
