Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

I run SETI@Home because I am interested in contacting extraterrestrial life.

My friend gives me the gears about searching for ET's beacuse he is a firm believer of Creationism, which means there is no way any other lifeforms can exist outside of planet earth.

I just can't believe this. In grade 10 my computer science teacher did the math, I think he used the a figure of 100,000 galaxies, with 1000 solar systems, with 10 planets each. If 0.5% of these planets had simialr conditions to earth that could support life, the number was in the 10's of thousands.

Even if we don't find anything out there (I think we eventually will) this project is an awesome example of distributed computing power!
