Personal background
Other interests that we share are the love of anything to do with Astronomy, but on the top of this very long list our main interest includes the study of Solar events and the effects resulting in Auroral displays.
Other areas of interest are the study of Wing Chun Do Gung Fu, Aquariums (freshwater stingrays), philosophy (esp. the works by Marcus Aurelius) and raising our children to be ready for this brave new world where anything is possible.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Many people think that searching for ETI is a waste of time. They think that nothing will be found and that people that think that they WILL find something are delusional. However, what if Columbus never set sail for the new world. Or that the Wright brothers decided that flight could not be accomplished by humans. What if other great minds like Copernicus accepted the thought of the day and never concieved the thought that the Earth did nothing more than rotate, never publishing his work De Revolutionibus orbium coelestium (Concerning the Revolutions of the Heavenly Bodies). The list can go on and on. However, I feel that we are on the edge of discovery. And for this, I commend all that partake in the exploration that the SETI@home team have allowed us to participate.
As William Shakspeare wrote, let us explore this undiscovered country. Together we can join in wonder as to what we may find. For even if we find nothing, let us remember, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
