Profile: Mulder

Personal background
I am a father of three boys and an IT Project Manager based in the Inland Northwest region of the US. I have been an active Internet user since I sent my first e-mail in 1994. My job involves Web-based applications, and it is fascinating to be involved with the ever-evolving 'Net. I'm really bummed that the X-Files is no longer on, especially since I chose 'Mulder' as my SETI user name. I'm sure the fictional Fox Mulder would have used SETI@home as his screensaver. Hobbies? I suppose computer-related stuff is a given, but I also enjoy spending time with my family. I don't have much time to do other things, but when I can I enjoy woodworking and throwing pottery.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run the screen saver both at home and at work. Why not make use of the processor that would otherwise be doing nothing?

I think it is reasonable to believe that extraterrestrial life exists, but the chances of it being sentient seem very slim. I love the Star Trek concept, but would be surprised if there are other 'humanoid' life forms out there. I'm excited about the projects hoping to find Earth-like planets, where the possibility of life in the form that we recognize it would be most likely. More info here: Planet Quest.

I run SETI@home primarily because I love the concept. I would like to see it adapted for something more tangible, like helping to cure disease or some other data analysis that would benefit humankind. It has been developed to a point now where the resource is well-established and should be opened to other endeavors.
