Personal background
Hi! My names Carol, and I live in St Albert, Alberta, Canada. I'm a 43 yo retired member of the Canadian Forces. Have lived all over Canada and have travelled all over the world. I am a big science fiction/fantasy fan, started watching Star Trek in the 60's and have watched it develop and grow into new series since. I am also an Xphile. If it isn't clear yet I believe...God would not have given us a brain and curiousity if he didn't want us to use it. He made the universe and all in it and we would not be fullfilling his expectations if we sat about with our heads up our asses! Go out, explore see and experience the wonders that he has created!!!! Seti is just a baby step in our growth and advancement, but one that must be made. To me, discovery and exploration are two of the most important things in my life besides God and my family. To find life other than on Earth is inevitable, I just hope that I am here to witness it....
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Of course, we will discover it when we make greater advances in space exploration. Or perhaps it has already discovered us, and is waiting till we become more open to the idea. The benefits and the dangers are imeasureable. The knowledge that we can gain will be immense, but that is also the danger. Unless we grow as a race (humans) we may not be able to use the knowledge wisely and it could destroy us, but if we use it to benefit all it may be our salvation.
2. Yes, but transmit it with care and a lot of thought. If we haven't already been observed, we must project a front of strength and compassion. Let others know that we are survivors, that we will act as a unified species but that we have many diversities. We must let them know that we beleive that all species have the right to survive and show it through actions on our own planet. But also let it be known that we will not let others, only God, dictate our exitance.
3. I believe tha SETI@home is one way that we who do believe can help...the truth is out there, let us find it!
