Personal background
I am a 42 yo Civil Engineer, fourth generation Califonian, very happily married to Linda. We have two boys, ages 8 and 14, and two dogs. We live in Millbrae, California, where my wife is the Vice Mayor (when she isn't working at her regular job). I am a science fanatic, and am always showing my boys how to build something, or wreck something, or fix something! I would love to teach late grade school or middle school science, showing kids how they use science everyday, without even knowing it. I think SETI@home is a perfect example of a low-tech solution to a very high tech problem, which was most definitely thought of outside the confines of any box!(if I remember correctly, on a cocktail napkin?!?)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course extra-terrestrial life exists, it is simply a matter of where. And because of the size of the universe, where translates into when. I don't agree that any civilization we may find will be far-advanced of ours...and I am not sure when we will discover them, but we will, it is only a matter of time. Of course, I will probably be worm food 50 times over by then...but I am happy to do my part with my spare electrons.

As for a beacon, who better than Lucille Ball and Milton Berle?....I hate to (mis)quote the X-Files, but it is out there! Since we have been in the electrical age, forms of EMF have been radiating from our "pale blue orb", and it is too late to call them back! I just hope the sitcoms we pick up from our first contact are better than "Friends"!
