Profile: USS Europe

Personal background
we're a starfleet: the international fan organisation Correspondence chapter, what means we communicate mostly through the internet. Our Chief Science Officer, stefan wouters, created this account. Now 5 people are running the Seti-at-home program and more are about to. We're a bunch of sci-fi lovers, so that mostly explains our interest in the Seti-At-Home project.

We're located in Portugal, but have members all over the world. You should take a look at our website, http://beam.at/usseurope . More info will be posted later on.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life does exist, we're sure about it. Only look at the fact that there are so many stars, with each a couple of planets, so there should be a terran / m-class planet somewhere. A beacon should be transmitted. Aliens receiving it would know there are other people around, and our technoloogy might even improve. We probably are not at risk, it takes many years to travel between stars, so we can prepare for wars if aliens would attack us . We run seti-at-home because of the the fact that we contribute to science, the ultimate if you look at startrek regulations :) The project is doing great and should continue with more resources. Suggestion: if aliens are detected, make a program for language analysis, to run instead of the Seti At Home client.
