Personal background
I'm a Technical Support Manager. I'm 57 years of age and have hobbies that include Amateur Radio (hence the call sign in my on-line name), computers (hence the 19 systems running SetiAtHome), and strategy gaming via computer. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration - Management from Xavier University in Cincinnati where I grew up. My wife is a Respiratory Therapist at a hospital here in Rochester NY where we currently reside. Our oldest offspring, Brian, was in the US Navy and was a Electrician's Mate - Nuclear and was assigned to a Los Angeles class attack submarine (hence my love of strategy warfare games). Our daughter graduated University at Buffalo and aspires and is a pharmacist in Buffalo.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Other than that, it is my belief that the Supreme Being (by whatever name you
wish to use) may look upon mankind as possibly a favored creation, I cannot
believe that an omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient creator would place all
his/her eggs in one basket and create only one 'experiment'. It is, therefore,
our obligation to find the other 'experiments' and possibly compare notes on the
wonder of it all! While we may encounter dangers unknown in this quest, we do
realize that the world, as well as the universe, can be a dangerous and
unfriendly place. But that should not prevent us from trying! We are humans!
Given inate curiousity and sometimes perverse ingenuity - we will explore the
universe as we have explored the majority of our own planet. The only caveat
that we need heed is that we are 'custodians' of what was given us. (Look up
the original meaning-latin of 'domine' and use historical and societal context
to determine the correct definition of the words 'dominion of the beasts of the
fields, birds of the air, and fish of the sea') Let's go look and explore!
