I am just starting out with SETI@Home and after many years of procrastination, pursuing my interest in astronomy.
I feel that SETI@Home is a great proof of concept for the potential benefits of distributed computing and hope that in the future other distributed computing projects used for more Earth-bound issues such as medical research or environmental modeling can become as popular as SETI@Home. |

Given the vastness of the Universe, I am certain there is life out there.
If we don't blow ourselves up first, I feel we will most likely we will find a signal in the next 10 to 20 years, though chances are, it will be from a civilization too far off for us to even hope to communicate with.
I do hope that once we as a civilization finally realize that we are not alone, we actually begin to work together and solve the issues that are threatening us all. |
