Personal background
I'm from Winnipeg, Canada and currently employed in the auto insurance industry. The things that are done accidently. Is that how we are going to discover ET? I'm married, for the second time, with six children. I enjoy a variety of sports, of course hockey is one of them. I was a golf fanatic, getting a hole-in-one will do that to you. Unfortunately a bad back keeps me off the golf course these days and on the computer surfing the world wide web.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I saw the SETI web address in my local newspaper and thought it would be interesting to check out. I've been hooked ever since. I first started processing SETI data in October of 2000 on my PIII 600 with 64mb of Ram. I soon added another 64mb of Ram so that I would be able to have SETI running whenever my computer was turned on. This has helped, but I'm still trying to find ways to speed up the data analysis process. I've tried several recommended methods of speeding things up, but nothing seems to work. I'm probably a lot like several million other SETI addicts in that it is the first thing I do when I turn on my computer. Go straight to my SETI-SPY and check the data. I truly believe that we are not alone and it is just a matter of time until we discover another race of beings in this vast universe. I don't think we will discover another civilization in my life time, I'm 45. It will happen when man starts to colonize other worlds. This has been the history of man, whenever we venture out, we discover. Just take a look at the history of mankind. We have always ventured outside our familiar surroundings to see what is out there. I believe that we should start sending out signals and maybe NASA could be involved. The next time they launch something like the Pioneer, attach something that could generate a unique signal. Make it like a beacon of some kind and try to attract someone's attention out there. For now I'll keep processing SETI@HOME data and hopefully I can have my name added to this fantastic discovery that is bound to happen.
