Personal background |
I am a 3rd year University Student studying Management and Computers. I started with the SETI program in 1999, I had no idea what radio astronomy is or anything at the time, I just read an article about SETI on a local magazine (Computer related I think), and I just browsed around, and this site just pop up.
It was really interesting to be with SETI, it started my whole interest in Astronomy, soon afterward, I got my first real scope ETX, and I started to do some research on the subject and brought a bunch of books, software, and I was hooked.
Now, after a few year, and becoming a small time amateur astronomer. I just realized how fascinating this field of science can be, and how this SETI program can help the community.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I really do think ET exist, but I really doubt that they will ever visit earth, I don't think we will discover another life form anytime soon, but this SETI program is just a good starting point.
Even if we do discover this life form, it is highly unlikely that they will be hostile, with the technology to travel through the vast space, I doubt they want to start a war or travel half the universe to An*l P*obe :p us or cut our crops. (Who started with this crazy idea anyway?)
I run SETI, mostly because I like having my astronomy software (Starry Night) pointing out where I am doing the SETI analysis, and I do run my computer almost non stop, and it has nothing to do otherwise. So I just let spend it on SETI or some other good community projects (Folding@home, Prime Number or other). Overall, I think SETI project is just a Great Idea. |
