Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
For years, I wanted to install SETI @home and to be a part of this big adventure much I never did it.
I finally install it at work on all my machine (got 3) and they are pretty prowerfull. I hope I will contribute to our success :-).

I am sure that extraterrestrial life exists. The real question is where are they, when will we meet them, what is their form and how evolve they are.
The univers is a big place and I am sure there are many planet like Heart where life can develop. I just hope we are not the first one to be 'so' advance.
If we are alone (I doubt it), we will never be sure unless we explore the entire univers ourself!! no way... If we find out we are not, it will probably disturb a lot of us. What about our religious conviction? The same probably happened when man discover that Heart was not flat. What a blast...

I don't think we should consider finding ET life a good or bad thing, it's more than that. It's the unkowned.

Sending a beacon is not a good idea because our current technology does not allow us to send a effective one. Radio was travel at the speed of light. Most system are 100 light years away, even more. If we send a beacon, it will probably be our legacy. I think we should wait to be able to go 'there' ourself or to have a 'good beacon system' :-)
