Personal background
Hello everyone. Been away for awhile, but I'm back. I'm a 46 year old Senior Systems Analyst in Montreal (Quebec), Canada. I'm a licenced pilot, love to skydive, drag racing and have been enjoying computers since 1982. I've been interested in space ever since I was old enough to look up and see all the stars lighting up the sky on a beautiful clear night. What a wonderful sight. I'm also a member of the Societe d'astronomie du Planetarium de Montreal (SAPM). My hobbies include watching the sky, playing with Starry Night Pro (an exceptionnally well made program) that helps me understand what I'm looking at, checking SPACE.COM for every new information I can get. Clear skys to all ;).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I know there is life somewhere out there, yet I have nothing to back up my beliefs. I cannot bring myself to believe that the whole universe grew to this size and yet, Earth is the only place where life has evolved. We haven't yet been able to understand the complexity of our own planet and Solar System, (which BTW is only a few AU from Earth), how can we be so sure life has not evolved thousands or millions of LY away? Millions of people believe in God, though no one's ever seen him! Lets just try keeping an open mind.

Space is far to big and complex for us to be the only living beings. Live has evolved and taken many forms on Earth and we've seen species adapting to whatever the Earth climate had to offer over millions of years. Why couldn't it be the same elsewhere? I simply believe that we lack resources and knowledge to get the answers we need. This is why I will keep on supporting SETI and the wonderfull work those people are doing. This is one way we can try to get some answers, and until something else (a new idea or a new technology) comes along, well, I'll just cruise along with the SETI group and hope for the best. Happy star gazing.
