Personal background
I'm a 24 year old stay-at-home-chick in Raleigh, North Carolina. My hobbies are varied and eclectic, ranging from creating digital art on my comptuer to reading about science and pseudoscience, to fantasy role-playing. I work a lot on my homepage, volunteer for an online civil liberties forum, and do a lot of thinking. I think about the roots of radical thought, about politics, about frozen pizza, about language and history, about science, about art, about sporks, about the environment, about whether this is a valid sentence, about computing and operating systems, about evolution, about good writing, and all sorts of other stuff. I even do some meta-thinking about thinking once in a while. With all this thinking going on, I thought "why shouldn't my computer be thinking too?", and here I am.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I find the seti@home project fascinating, not only because of the implications of the work all these thousands of comptuers are doing, but because so many people are actually participating. I'm a cynic, and I love to be pleasantly surprised by cooperation and a demonstrated lack of apathy. I'm also an agnostic, religiously and on the topic of alien intelligence (which some people tend to treat as a religion...). I don't know if anything's out there, but I am more than happy to help look, and it gives me a real thrill to know that others are looking too.
