Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Basicly, I believe there is life out there somewhere, other then us. Anyone hwo believes that we are the only living inteligent creatures in this universe are retards.
I really don't know if we should transmit a signal into outerspace at this time in our evolution. My reason being, lets say we do send a msg, doesn't matter what we say, and it's recieved and decoded by some other inteligent life form. They come to Earth, as we know it, and attempt communication, or worse, try and eliminate us. How will we react to this encounter at this time? I really dont think that the human race will make a "good" decision on the reaction we give them. And we also have to take in consideration, what part of teh world will they contact first? We have many different views on how we deal with thngs in many different cultures, thus possibly giving a wrong impression and lead to our distruction. Basicly we are not organized as a whole planet on what view we should relay. And who's to say they don't already have "spies" walking around absorbing data on how we live and react to certain situations. Alot of time when we are threatened, we resort to war, which would be preceived as a threat to them, thus making them not want to make contact. When we can retrain the way we handle alot of the situations we are faced with as a planet in general, then we will be ready to take the next step in probing someone else's planet or lifestyle. |
