Personal background
I'm a 32 year-old nuclear marine designer who lives in Newport News, VA. I enjoy SETI because I'm still waiting for the mother ship to come back for me.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes, ETs do exist. The mathematical probabilities, in my opinion, are just too great. I believe we as "humans" think ourselves are way too important, and that other life does exist. We just haven't found the right way to talk to them.
2. A beacon? We already do that, but we're limited by the speed of light by our current technology. It takes thousands of years to reach the next galaxy. I think if there's going to be contact, they'll do it. Until then, we keep looking.
3. I run SETI on my computer because I believe in it. It gives me a chance to help realize my beliefs. I like the project, and I would like to see some reports e-mailed out about potential hits, and any interesting data that's found.
