| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

Does ETI exist? A difficult question to answer when one considers the time dimension. I think ETI must have existed, is existing, or will exist at some point. Because the distances of space/time are so vast, if proof of ETI is discovered, it may well be ancient. Such a discovery will undoubtedly change every Earth resident's view of the Universe, hopefully in a positive way.
I participate in SETI@Home for two reasons: one, to help analyze scientific data that may provide benefits other than discovering ETI, and also to show my support for distributed computing. I'm sure that several new applications for distribted computing will allow us to answer an unlimited range of scientific questions. |
