Roots: Born in Dakotah, farm in Minnesota, Minneapolis for HS at John Marshall, SE, Trouble, U.S. Navy for five years (Involuntary Korean War Extension), education in 1952 Cuba, Brief stint in Naval Prison, Portsmouth. NH, (but no discharge from USN), Offered berth on submarine - after five years of asking for sub duty - and politely declined, publishing business, Cape Cod, '53/'54, Boston University '55/'57, U of South Carolina, Summer '55/'56, second of three marriages - non of which lasted two years, (I'd meet STG in 1970-we'd bypass the state, committed to each other and have had 37 great years.)
