Personal background
I am from Dallas, TX. My hobbies are computers, electronics, amateur radio (KC5SDY), learning Adobe Photoshop and watching SETI crunch away at the numbers. I currently work for a company called Compucom Systems on the second level helpdesk. I support hardware, email applications, and operating systems.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that the universe is too large for other life to not exist. I honestly do not thing that God would have created the universe just for us when there is not much of a chance that all of it will be explored by humans.

If there are other life forms out there, then they will probebly be discovered by the other beings exploring the universe just as we wound and "stumbling" across us as we would "stumble" across them. There would always be a danger in the discovery. Granted that Hollywood tends to portray alien lifeforms as evil and eager to distroy anything in sight, I am sure this will be a constant concern but, not always true.

Transmitting a beacon would be an interesting thought. What I would probebly want to be transmitted would be samples of each language spoken on Earth as well as a sample of the history and cultures.

I personally run SETI@home simply becuase if there are other life forms in the universe, what better way to help and discover them by allowing your home computer(s) to be used in the search. I think that the SETI@home project was a very good idea and I hope it continues to run for many years to come.
