Personal background
I have been using computers since Sept. 1984. I have had the C-64, C-128, 8088, 80286, 80386, then sold or gave them away in 1996 and bought a Pentium.

Then I got a newer Pentium in 1998 with a AMD 233 MHZ cpu: which became obsolete around 2001.

So in Nov 2001 I bought a new computer containing: an AMD 1 GHZ cpu with a 266 mhz MB, 512 Megs DDR Ram, a couple of HDD's (40 GB & 60 GB) and a Jaton TNT2 AGP video card with 32 megs ram.

Here is a link to the place I buy my computer parts. http://www.com-pair.net/pricelist.html.

Since 1997 I have been a member of the IBM-PC Users Group of Redding, before then I was a member of the Long Beach IBM-PC Users Group.

I use Bryce 4.1, Adobe GoLive 5, PSP 5 to make animations with Coffee Cup & FrontPage 2000 to make websites.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists?

NAH

If so, when and how will humans discover it?

By accident like all the other really good discoveries we learn about.

What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

Most likley our planet is a viral and bacterological nightmare for anyone not from earth.

Genetic breeding wherein their dna is implanted.

World Domination?

What else?

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? YES

If so, what information should we send?

"KEEP OFF the grass."

Why do you run SETI@home?
Makes for a nice screen saver.
