Personal background
I've been a physics teacher for 19 years now. Previously I did a degree in Astrophysics at the University of Hertfordshire. I've always had an interest in science and science-fiction, and I first got interested in SETI when I had to write an essay about the various searches during the first year of my degree course, I signed up for seti@home almost as soon as it got started. It would be awesome if my Mac analysed the signal that finally answered the Fermi paradox!
Part of team BOINC MySpacers, it's kind of a nice feeling to know that other people are as interested in SETI as you are.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. The likelihood that we are alone in the Universe is almost statistically impossible, by finding and hopefully having some form of albeit limited contact with another intelligent civilization we will gain a fundamental insight into the nature of existence and our place in the universe. SETI@home allows me to have a small part in one of the most important scientific projects of the last 50 years, as it may allow us as a species to finally answer the question of the likelihood of the probabality of life evolving elsewhere in our universe.

2. Fantastic! Metascience projects like SETI@home are the way forward with large analytical or CPU demanding tasks like this.

3. Keep watching the skies!
