Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? I would suppose so- the math makes sense. If discovered, humans will no doubt go through all the historical contortions; make some friends, make some enemies, and ignore others. There is no doubt benefit to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. After all it is programmed into us and it appears that life seeks out life- though the reasons might not be readily apparent. I believe humans have already managed to make plenty of ripples in the electromagnetic soup without dedicating any effort to a beacon per se. We will manage to make our presence known plenty as we begin to move off the planet.

Why do I run SETI at home? Because the project makes sense and its very cost effective. I also get a certain amount of enjoyment from seeing how much computing power the project is bringing to bear.
