Personal background
Hi. I'm from Montreal, but grew up north of the city (Lachute) in the Laurentian Mountains. It was far from the city lights and the night sky was so clear, you could touch the stars. I'm deeply interested in all things scientific, and will always regret not pursuing the field academically. However, I'm 43 now and have been a journalist for 20 years. I find great joy in being able to explain complicated science to a nationwide audience. Believe me, when SETI finds a whisper from the void, I'll send an URGENT item to all radio and TV stations in Canada.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? How could it not?
Anyone reading this knows the math -- the millions and millions of known galaxies containing countless billions of suns, with trillions of planets circling them. Considering how all things in the universe were born from similar elements, how could it be that ONLY our planet is the right distance from its sun to create the ideal conditions for life. If this planet grew life in a chemical stew, how could it not happen elsewhere? The numbers are too big for me to believe otherwise.
Cheers...
