Profile: George Bauer

Personal background
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, my wife, daughter and I recently moved to Houston, Texas.

I have been, and always will be a space nut. Moving to Houston, being in the shadow of Johnson Space Center is dream come true.

I run SETI@Home on both of my personal computers, my laptop, and desktop at work.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Is there intelligent life out in the universe? I could give the common, 'It's a big place, there has to be...', but I like to think of myself as a both realist and a dreamer.

Realist: The random chances that have placed me in front of this computer today are astronomical (pun intended). Could a similar sequence of random chances occurred somewhere else out there? Theoretically, yes. During the same time frame as our existence? Theoretically, yes, but statistically very slim.

Dreamer: I would love to discover that there is intelligent life somewhere else in the universe. I would not be running SETI@Home if I didn't. Selfish as it may seem, SETI@Home provides me with a feeling of belonging and accomplishment. I and a few hundred thousand other people have a common goal. We are a team working to find a simple yes or no answer.
