Profile: Damian Vincent

Personal background
Hi there,

My name is Damian, and i have been running Set@home pretty much since the beginning (Currently around 5000 units). I live in a village called Bramley, which is some 40 miles south of London and several hundred light-years from anywhere exciting.

Current hobbies include tearing up the local scenery in my Jeep, Paintballing, Archery (That's archery in the real way, not the lasers and optical sigts way!) and anything that gets me out of the office.

I feel I must explain the picture!!

The opening battle scenes of the movie "Gladiator" was filmed a few miles from me, so i got the chance to regress to my un-inhibited medieval self for 2 weeks and shoot Romans, Germans and the occaisional set designer.

Nice work if you can get it!

Good luck!!

Damian

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1.Do I believe in aliens? Without a doubt. As someone once said to me "NOT to believe is incredibly arrogant" or "In an infinite universe there are infinite probabilities".
We will eventually bump into ET, but probably when they think we are ready and not before. I am not convinced that we are under "Local" observation (Sorry Mullder & Scully) but they are there and i think we are probably on their list of 'Planets to watch'

2.We already are aren't we? With all that EM Radiation lighting up the sky we might as well be, lets hope that they can sort the wheat from the chaff and see the REAL us, not the sitcom re-runs.

3. I run Seti@home because it's a way of keeping the dream alive. Anything we can do to think globally is a good thing. If we all pull together on this, who knows what is possible? Maybe we can get so used to working together as a global community we can avoid situations like Sept 11th.

Any suggestions?

Yes, more sky coverage, larger search bandwidths, and more users.

I know the constraints are financial; maybe the governments can open their eyes and give us a hand?
