Profile: El Castrol

Personal background
Well, I'm a Power take-off and Hydralics technician and Car buff.
I have 2 certificates in Recording arts and musical production, and multi-media afficionado. When I was in school my father gave me my first telescope and I was fascinated with all the stars, planets in our solar system, and later on, astronomical phenomina, but later audio and computers kind of took over, and the telescope died in a tragic moving accident.
I currently use an Apple iMac 500 mHz model. I used to be a intel guy, but this cute blue little machine blew the doors off the intels in regards to audio recording and digital audio manipulations and editing.
Enough about my toys. I like greek food, cycling, hopping up my 1987 Ranger XLT ( trying to make it look like a 1988 Saleen Ranger!) and messing about on the 'puter. I'm always tinkering with something and taking it apart (only recently better at putting it back together;)) and trying to come up with stranger and better ways to my job and my hobbies (audio, live sound, etc)!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
My Opinions:
1) Do I think ET's exist? I don't know. But think about it this way: Out of all the trillions and trillions of stars in our galaxy, lets say .1% of those are type g main sequence stars, and out of all those, say .1% of those had planets. NOW take , oh, 1% of those and they had a planet or more that could support life, and out of those, say 1% of those planets had a civilization sophisticated enough to detect us and transmit "HELLO". Do the math! That is one hell of a lot of planets to find!!

2) Should humans transmit a beacon? Uh, hello!? We have already been doing that since the mid to late 1930's, starting out with Adolf Hitlers announcement of the olympic games in Berlin. That transmission had to cover Europe. That transmission is out there, and all the rest of our transmissions after that. Basically, ANY Sentient, advanced civilization within 65 light years know we are here!!

3) Why do I run SETI@HOME? Why not? What is the worst thing that could happen? NOTHING. What is the best thing that could happen? We can meet some ET's!!
The way I look at it, I have nothing to lose, so why not?
