Personal background
My real name is Rick Glover, I work for NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center,
AL as a Procurement/Program Analyst. I guess the next boring thing you might
want to know are my hobbies ... I like to do just about anything that's fun or
exciting!!! Oh well...here is a partial list: Skiing [Snow & Water], Hunting,
Bass Fishing, Mountain Biking, Motorcycling, Caving, Scuba Diving, Billiards.
They say you can read a man's 'Soul' by the music he likes...I don't know if
that is true but try to read mine if you can...this is my music, Enya,
Moody-Blues, Three Dog Nite, Emerson Lake & Palmer, & Lots of Classical Stuff.
I have two parrots, one Green Wing is named 'Sam' and one Red Lored Amazon
named 'Bird Bird' ... don't ask how he got his name.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes it would almost be statistically impossible for extraterrestrial life not
to exist. Anyone who doubts the certainty of this issue is really putting their
head in the sand. As far as when and how will humans discover it, well that's
real guess work, we might find proof of non-sentient life in our own solar
system long before we hear from ET. I really suspect that most advanced ET's
out there will contact us first, if and when they're ready. Of course there is
always the slim chance that we might discover a sentient life form that is
equal or slightly behind us technologically. The current Seti program has its
best chances of doing this but I believe the chances are slim but there. As
far as any benefits or dangers, both scenarios are possible. Personally if we
find ET and they are less advanced than our species, there could be great
benefits. If we find a more advanced ET (or they find us), then I feel there
could be great danger for us as the developing race. We are already
transmitting energy and information in many forms that can be recovered by ET's
out there, but I would not want to develop any special beacon to send out ...
we might not like who or what replies. I for one do not wish to be used or
assimilated into a more advanced race's society. I run Seti because I like the
concept and I believe in its goals.
