Personal background
I am Thom a 19 yr old impure carbon string with dellusions of grandeur. Unfortunately i am not particularly l337 nor in fact do i own j00 i do however have a loathing for the system idle process and a great deal of respect for those amongst us that r l337 including the most righteous purveyors of seti in their quest to find things l3373r than us. As a result i attempt to do my best to kill two birds with one stone. Being as I am from London England you must excuse my verbosity; i may not be l3373r than u but im probably p05h3r ;¬).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course ET life exists- it has to.....right? Discovering it would be the statistical feat of a millenia but why should we let that stop us trying, of course transmitting a beacon is a sensible idea "world of beings of equal or lesser intelligence than your good selves here: please dont hurt us," seems to be a reasonable place to start. I think it might also be pertinent to leave out the majority of our history and maybe broadcast nothing much more than a mathematical equation that magically creates mr Da Vinci's pretty picture of a four legged, four armed human when correctly deciphered. As to Seti at home, what a splendid idea- every major project should do it cos it must be saving seti ridiculous amounts of time. Maybe we could suggest a "human genome at home" project to the good chaps and chappessess doing that as well. I personally do seti at home to eradicate the system idle process created by Microsoft deliberately to take up cpu (ok i know its necessary) which just seems silly. I also do it in the vain hope of being the guy who reports to seti the data that shows ET life exists (a feat for which i think there should be a prize) but then dont we all wish to be remembered for something!
