Happily married male, 65, stuck on the East Coast, Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Chemistry).
Computers have been part of my life since graduate school. I'm running BOINC and SETI@home on 5 PCs at the house. Six of these are home-built. Operating systems used are Windows XP (Home and Pro) and Linux (Ubuntu). The fastest is a home-built system with an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU (Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz) and 4 GB RAM on an ASUS P5Q Motherboard running Windows XP Pro. Next in line is a home-built entertainment system with an Intel Core Duo CPU (E4600 @ 2.4 GHz) and 2 GB RAM on a GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3G Motherboard running Windows XP Home. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Religion and other mind-restraining philosophies aside, it is arrogant of humanity to believe we are the only ones in a universe where the sheer numbers of possibilities are staggering.
Unfortunately, I believe that if an alien race were to land tomorrow, we would shoot them.
The thought for the day: "Remember, stupidity runs in herds."
I run SETI@home at home. It is nice to use the PC for something useful other than my professional work, paying bills and 'net surfing. |
