Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Why do you run SETI@home?
I run Seti@Home because I believe that the odds are in our favor that we are not alone in the universe. Being a Star Trek fan, has helped shape those beliefs. My views on the project are that it is an excellent project, that is well worth the time and electricity. I think that the project is worthwile because, wether or not we find ET, we've looked. That, to me, shows that we have obtained a certain level of intelligence, and have reached a point in our evolution, that is allowing us to look beyond our own planet, and ask the "big questions."

Thoughts about ETI
As I've previously stated, I believe that it is highly likely that ET does exist. We will definetly discover them, the question should be WHEN will we discover them. My hope is that we will discover them in the "not to distant future", hopefully before we blow each other up. As far as the benefits/dangers of discovering ET... watch every sci-fi show made. They could co-exist peacefuly like in Alien Nation, or they could conquer us like in "V". We could benefit from their technology and medicine like in the Twilight Zone episode entitled "To Serve Man", just remember the famous line... "Doctor, To Serve Man... it's a cook book!" There are also dangers of unknown diseases and bacteria that can be introduced by both parties (us and them). In short, there are danger for both us and them, but hopefuly the benefits of an exchange in technology and culture will out weigh those dangers.

Should we transmit our own signal? I think TV is doing that for us already (see the movie Contact).
