Personal background
I was born on 15th April 1975 in Liverpool. When I was 10 years old my family moved to Devon and I have lived there ever since (apart from a 4 year stint at Uni in Swansea, Wales).

I'm 6ft tall with red hair. I'm a little overweight, but I'm working on it.

I currently work for Torbay Council doing PC Support.

I first became interested in SETI at University. I lost the details of my first account (completed about 70 work units) and rejoined the project around the year 2000.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Some people believe that what we are trying to achieve here with SETI@home is Science Fiction and a waste of time. In a way they might be right.

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for that, but let's think for a moment. Humans (homosapiens) have been on this planet for over 100,000 years and we have only developed electronic communication in the last 100 years or so. That's only 0.1% of the time that we have existed. SETI@home still searches for signals using this level of technology.

Within the last 10 years the technology we have been using to communicate has become cleaner, crisper, and less polluting. We are switching from Analogue to Digital communication, focusing transmissions, and we are only just beginning to develop this technology.

Yet I continue with this project. Why? Is it because I don't have anything better to do with my computer? No. Is it because I like the pretty pictures on the screensaver? Maybe.

The reason why I continue with this project is that I believe in its principal. As technology develops so will SETI, and without our support we might never realise just how wonderful nature, creation, and this universe is.

Finally, why do I support this program now if I think we are looking for the wrong thing? Because if there are beings out there that wish to communicate they might well have originally gone through the same process we are now going through. If they decide to send a signal, even a 'Hello. You are not alone' message, they might send it in the same way they first looked for it, the way SETI@home is now looking.

We are all dreamers ... maybe through SETI our dreams can come true.
