Personal background
I'm a 30 year old network engineer who has always been interested in high performance computing be it distributed processing, cluster computing, etc. In my job role, I've built several distributed systems for various purposes.

After building myself what I considerred an above average workstation, I decided I'd put it to the test in a useful way with the SETI@Home system.

Well, I'm crunching through work units at a shade under 12/day. This seems well above average from what I can see.

Now the challenge lies before me to see if I can optimize my times further for single station results, and maybe even find ET in the process !!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think its unfathomable to believe that we are alone in the universe. Unfortunately, I don't place much hope in our first encounter with extra-terrestiral life going well.

I believe we should strive to answer the question of whether or not other life exists. I sometimes shudder to think of what will happen should we find it however.

I run SETI@Home in order to put my computer to good use in the pursuit of my passion for ever higher workstation performance. I would like to see a version of SETI@Home that is optimized for high performance systems.
