Profile: Chris GW6KZZ

Personal background
Hi, my name is Chris and I live in Wales, though I was born in West Yorkshire, England.

My Occupation was and is professional transport and logistics with a twist in research and development of munitions and weaponry. Since I was disabled by a halo parachute accident and suffered extremely rare cancer cause by a CBRN WMD I have been content to enjoy my hobbies of computers and Amateur Radio Satellites, with digital communication in space been at the front of the hobby and trying to move forward with further education.

These days I live in a wheelchair for 99% of my time, but this does not stop me enjoying life as much as possible. Even fighting cancer I was researching the next generation of digital communications with 38,400 to 153k baud downlink and 9,600 baud uploading. To see several small images downloaded in a single 12 minute orbit window was just a dream, now I can download 2.2 MB of data in the satellite pass and 8 Mbps a reality.

Yes, I am also a Sci-fi fan and read many levels of books, physics, theories and enjoy Star Trek too.

I am currently in my 4th year of studying for a Open University BSc Degree studies in IT and Computers in the hope I can help AMSAT achieve new breaking grounds in deep space communications. Already completed several courses in programming, maths and information technology, next year (2006) studying Concurrent Systems read Jean Bacon's three books.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe it is only a matter of time before we meet ET's, but the search for them is very rewarding too. SETI has always been in my work and now I can help them here with BOINC too.

Should humans transmit a beacon? We already do that in our daily lives, I think ET's already know of us by now, it is just that they are waiting for mankind to be ready to meet them.

I think that the more we research and find in outer space the more we should prepare mankind to meet what is ever out there, if we are prepared then so will ET beings too. First contact is going to be the biggest thing for mankind in our history, and I for one would not want it to go wrong.

SETI is a very important project, it will allow us all to grow and know that we are no longer alone in this universe. Extra Terrestrial Intelligence is out there, it is just a matter of time before we meet each other on common ground in space.

My suggestion is not just look or search with one mode, but widen our search with many methods and modes.
