Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It is the height of arrogance to suggest that the primary race on the third planet of a minor star is the only intelligent life in the universe. Our experience with cetaceans proves that. The problem with contacting other intelligences is technological and/or societal assimilation - see what happened to Rome and the American Indian. Any such contact should be approached cautiously. Look up the short story "First Contact" by Murray Leinster (1945). With caution, such contact could be immensely beneficial for all parties concerned, or it could be the end of those same parties.
