Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do believe life exists elsewhere, but I can't even begin to speculate on when or how we will find it. There are just too many variables. But that's how I know we will find extraterrestrial life one days, because the universe has to many possibilities for us not too, all we need is time.

I also think we should take the step transmit a beacon, but maybe not just yet. Some years down the line, when we are advanced enough to seek out others ourselves, then we would be justified in putting forth a beacon to others. If we do it prematurely, any race that answered would by necessity by far more advanced than us, a great risk to take.

I run the project because I am curious. Any scrape of information is useful, all knowledge is useful in one way or another. I also think that a discovery of life out in the cosmos might bring people around to the realization that we are one small planet and we don't have the time for petty arguments with ourselves. Though that could just be a fantasy, I think it's a beautiful one, worth keeping.
