| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I very strongly doubt that we will actually find any evidence of ETI - Drake's equations tend to ignore too many intangibles about whether any possible ET civilisation would actually broadcast its presence.
However, although this may be a longshot, it's certainly worth gambling on. The effect on humanity as a whole of knowing that there was other life out there would be astounding, and makes the investment of this effort worthwhile. Unlike a lottery, we can come out ahead.
Oh, and even if we don't, the technologies come out of this are not to be disregarded. |
